ChargePoint is the name electricians say first, the app EV forums recommend by default, and the charger that anchors our best home EV charger rankings. What it is not is a lineup. ChargePoint sells exactly one home charger — the Home Flex — in six SKUs that differ only by plug type and connector. And the two configurations most people order, the plug-in ones, quietly deliver 40 amps instead of the 50 on the marketing page. This guide covers which ChargePoint you should actually buy in 2026, and the one spec that decides it.

- 86 out of 100 — EnergySage’s tested score for the Home Flex, including a cold-weather result in which the cable stayed pliable after 14 hours at −18°F in a commercial freezer. Cable stiffness in winter is a real and under-reported complaint in this category.

1. ChargePoint Home Flex Hardwired, J1772 — Best Overall

- No power sharing, and NEMA 3 rather than NEMA 4 — both matter only in specific situations.
Chargers are heavy, awkward boxes that people order the week their EV arrives — a free 30-day Prime trial covers the fast shipping so the charger is on the wall before the car is in the driveway.
If an electrician is coming out anyway, hardwire it. The labor for pulling a circuit and landing it in a charger is close to identical to pulling a circuit and landing it in an outlet, but the outlet path permanently caps you at 40 amps. Hardwiring also removes the plug — the single most common heat-failure point in home charging, as covered in our NEMA 14-50 outlet guide — and it lets you run the Home Flex on circuits up to 80 amps.
For most drivers the difference between 30 and 37 miles of range per hour is invisible overnight. It becomes visible when you get home at 9pm with 15 percent battery and need a full charge by 6am, or when a time-of-use rate gives you a six-hour cheap window and you want to fill inside it.
2. ChargePoint Home Flex Hardwired, NACS — Best for Tesla Owners

- Same 50A hardwired ceiling, so it out-powers Tesla's own 48A Wall Connector.
- ChargePoint's app and public-network integration, which Tesla's charger does not offer.
- Costs roughly $75 more than Tesla's $475 Wall Connector, which carries a 4-year warranty.
This is a genuinely competitive Tesla charger and the closest thing to a fair fight with Tesla’s own hardware — we put the two head to head in ChargePoint Home Flex vs Tesla Universal Wall Connector. The short version: the Home Flex NACS wins on amperage and app, the Tesla Wall Connector wins on price, warranty length and power sharing across up to six units.
Note the asymmetry that trips people up. A NACS Home Flex charges a Tesla natively and a J1772 car only via an adapter; a J1772 Home Flex does the reverse. Since the connector is molded to the cable, this is a purchase-time decision. Mixed-EV garages should buy for the car that charges most often and keep a Tesla to J1772 adapter in the glovebox.
3. ChargePoint Home Flex NEMA 14-50 — Best If You Already Have the Outlet

- Plugs into a standard four-prong 14-50 garage or RV outlet — no electrician if the outlet exists.
- Unplug and take it with you when you move, which a hardwired unit does not allow.
- Capped at 40 amps / 9.6 kW regardless of what your circuit could support.
- Same $549-ish price as the hardwired unit, for 20 percent less power.
The honest case for this version is narrow but real: you already have a 14-50 outlet, you rent, or you expect to move. In all three the plug is worth more than the amps. What does not make sense is paying an electrician to install a new 14-50 outlet so you can plug in a 40-amp-capped charger — that is spending install money to buy a downgrade.
One code note if you are installing a new outlet anyway: NEC 625.54 requires GFCI protection on EV charging receptacles, and a 50-amp two-pole GFCI breaker runs $100–$150 against $10–$15 for a standard breaker. That cost lands on the plug-in path and not the hardwired one.
4. ChargePoint Home Flex NEMA 6-50 — The Cheaper Outlet Nobody Mentions

- Cheaper to install new than a 14-50 — one less conductor to pull on long runs.
- EVs never use the neutral pin, so nothing is lost by dropping it.

If you have a welder outlet in the garage, you may already have EV charging and not know it. And on a long run from a distant panel — where wire is $10–$25 per foot installed — dropping the neutral conductor is a real saving. The trade-off is portability: 6-50 outlets are less common at campgrounds and rentals than 14-50, so the plug is worth less if you travel with the charger.

The risk worth pricing in
Every smart charger is a bet that the company behind the app will still exist. That bet has already gone badly once: Enel X Way left North America in October 2024 and JuiceBox owners lost their app, their scheduling and their support overnight. It is why this site will not recommend a JuiceBox at any price.
ChargePoint deserves the same scrutiny, and the numbers are public. ChargePoint Holdings reported a net loss of $282.9 million for fiscal 2025, cash reserves declining from roughly $325 million to $225 million, and executed a 1-for-20 reverse stock split in July 2025 specifically to address NYSE delisting risk. First-quarter fiscal 2026 revenue fell about 9 percent year over year.
None of that changes what the hardware does today. ChargePoint is still shipping, still supporting, and still the most polished home charging experience you can buy — which is why it remains our overall pick. But it does change the calculus for one type of buyer: if the app is the whole reason you are spending $549, and losing it would make you feel robbed, a cloud-independent charger like the Grizzl-E Classic at ~$399 is the conservative buy. If you want the app but not the exposure, the Emporia Classic at $429 gets you 48 amps and $120 back in your pocket against the same risk profile.
How to buy a ChargePoint without overpaying
- Decide hardwired vs plug first, not last. It is the only spec that changes performance. If an electrician is running a new circuit, hardwire and take the 50 amps.
- Check your utility rebate list before you order. The Home Flex is ENERGY STAR certified, and programs pay $250–$1,000. The federal 30C credit expired June 30, 2026, so this is the only money left.
- Count your EVs. If the answer is two and you have one circuit, stop reading and go to our best dual EV charger guide. ChargePoint cannot do this.
- Look at where it will hang. NEMA 3 is fine in a garage or under an eave. On an exposed wall in a rainy climate, buy a NEMA 4 charger instead.
- Match the connector to the car you charge most. J1772 and NACS cables are molded on. Adapters handle the other car.
- Watch for the $100-off sales. The Home Flex discounts to around $449 with regularity, which erases most of the gap to the Emporia.
Verdict
The best ChargePoint EV charger in 2026 is the Home Flex Hardwired at roughly $549 — 50 amps, 12 kW, 37 miles of range per hour, adjustable down to 16 amps, ENERGY STAR certified, and attached to the best app in home charging. Take the NACS version if you drive a Tesla, knowing Tesla’s own $475 Wall Connector undercuts it with an extra year of warranty and power sharing the ChargePoint lacks.
Buy a plug-in version only if the outlet already exists or you expect to move. Paying for a new outlet to run a 40-amp-capped charger is the most common and most expensive mistake in this category — the same money spent on hardwiring buys 20 percent more power and removes the plug as a failure point.
And if two EVs share your garage, ChargePoint is simply the wrong brand. That is not a knock on the Home Flex, which remains the charger we recommend most often across the best Level 2 EV charger field. It is a reminder that the best charger in the category is still not the best charger for every driveway.
